Baling Wire for Balers in Australia
Black annealed, galvanised and hi tensile baling wire
Stems, coils and snaplocks for every baler
Material Recovery Solutions supplies high tensile baling wire for cardboard, wastepaper, PET and HDPE containers, and aluminium and steel cans. We’ve worked with leading baler wire manufacturers for many years to develop wire with high tensile strength and good elongation, so bales stay tied from the baler to the recycler.
Our wire is precision layer wound, which keeps coils smooth and stops the tangling that slows operators down. Consistent tensile strength means fewer wire breaks and less worry about whether a wire suits your machine.
We supply black annealed, galvanised and hi tensile wire in all the common diameters, stocked locally, with full container orders available for high volume sites.
Baling wire sizes
Black annealed, galvanised and hi tensile wire, supplied in 1,000 kg and 500 kg stems and 45 kg coils. 40 kg rolls are also available, boxed and palletised. We supply both locally manufactured and imported wire, depending on type and availability.
| Diameter | Wire type |
|---|---|
| 2.32 mm | Black annealed |
| 2.64 mm | Black annealed |
| 2.71 mm | Hi tensile, low wax |
| 3.00 mm | Black annealed |
| 3.00 mm | Galvanised |
| 3.06 mm | Hi tensile, low wax |
| 3.15 mm | Black annealed |
| 3.40 mm | Black annealed |
Thicker 3.43 mm and 3.9 mm wire is available on request for specific applications. Minimum order quantities apply.
Snaplocks and precut wire
Single and double looped precut wire to suit manual and vertical balers.
| Diameter | Standard lengths |
|---|---|
| 3.40 mm | 3.90 m, 4.50 m, 4.80 m |
| 4.00 mm | 4.50 m, 4.80 m |
Snaplocks can be made to order in any length from 3,350 mm to 5,750 mm.
Get more bales from every stem with 3.0 mm wire
Our 3.0 mm black annealed wire comes in 1 tonne stems from Godswill’s recommended wire manufacturer, with strong tie and holding integrity. Because it’s slightly finer than the common 3.15 mm wire, you get about 10% more wire length per stem, which means around 10% more bales for the same weight and cost.
Full container orders
High volume sites can order a full container of 20 stems shipped direct. Skipping warehousing and road freight saves roughly the cost of one stem, and annual agreements of 5 or more containers bring further savings.
Wire for every baler and material
- Cardboard and wastepaper
- PET and HDPE plastic containers
- Aluminium and steel cans
We supply wire for channel and cardboard balers, twin ram balers, Godswill balers and other brands. If your baler needs a service while you’re ordering wire, our engineers can help with that too: see baler repair and servicing.

Baling wire FAQs
What gauge is standard baling wire?
In Australia baling wire is usually sold by diameter in millimetres. Most balers use wire between about 2.6 mm and 3.4 mm. Check your baler’s manual or ask us and we’ll match the wire to your machine.
What is the difference between black annealed and galvanised baling wire?
Black annealed wire is heat treated to make it flexible and easy to tie, and is the most common choice for cardboard and paper. Galvanised wire has a zinc coating that resists rust, which suits bales stored outdoors or in damp conditions.
Is tie wire the same as baling wire?
Not quite. Tie wire is usually thin, soft wire for tying small bundles or reinforcing bar. Baling wire is heavier and made to hold compressed bales under tension.
What are snaplocks?
Snaplocks are precut lengths of baling wire with a loop at one end, used for tying bales by hand on manual and vertical balers. We supply them in standard lengths or made to order between 3,350 mm and 5,750 mm.
Why use 3.0 mm wire instead of 3.15 mm?
A 3.0 mm wire gives about 10% more length per kilogram than the common 3.15 mm, so you get around 10% more bales from the same weight of wire. Ask us whether it suits your baler.
Can I order baling wire by the container?
Yes. A full container of 20 stems ships direct, which removes warehousing and road freight costs. The saving works out at roughly one free stem, with further savings on annual agreements of 5 or more containers.
Can you service my baler as well?
Yes. We service and repair balers across Australia, so your baling wire and your baler servicing can come from one supplier.
